Newton's MoGo Dapter is world's smallest bluetooth adapter

DAPTER.300.jpg

CeBIT 2007

“Set it and forget it” capability specifically designed for 250 million older laptops without Bluetooth capability, allowing use of MoGo Mouse, other wireless devices

15 Mar. 2007 — Newton Peripherals, the developer of the revolutionary MoGo Mouse™, today announced the MoGo Dapter™, a breakthrough in Bluetooth™ adapters that makes it easier than ever for millions of laptop users to use Bluetooth-enabled wireless devices.

The MoGo Dapter is the world's smallest Bluetooth adapter, specifically designed for "road warriors" and other mobile computer users. Newton Peripherals' engineers designed the Dapter, miniaturizing and encapsulating the patent-pending technology so that the adapter simply plugs into any free USB port and virtually sits flush, without protruding like standard adapters. In doing so, the Dapter delivers "set it and forget it" Bluetooth functionality, eliminating the current requirement of unplugging and carrying a bulky adapter when traveling.

The market for such a device is tremendous. Figures from IMS Research and the Bluetooth Special Interest Group indicate that there may be as many as 250 million older laptops still in daily use worldwide, without embedded Bluetooth support. The MoGo Dapter now enables owners of those laptops to use the award-winning MoGo Mouse, recently named as one of IT Week magazine's "Products of the Year," as well as other Bluetooth-enabled devices. More importantly, the MoGo Dapter essentially becomes an integrated part of the laptop, giving users one fewer device to misplace or lose.

Linksys announces new fully-managed, stackable & standalone switches built for small businesses

image_SFE2000%20%28L%29%20copy.jpg

CeBIT 2007

15 Mar. 2007 -- Linksys today announced six new fully managed Layer-2 switches designed specifically for the small business market. These new switches, part of the Linksys Business Series line-up, include:

Stackable
• 24-Port 10/100 + 4-Port Gigabit + 2 SFP Managed Switch (SFE2000)
• 24-Port 10/100 + 4-Port Gigabit + 2 SFP + PoE Managed Switch (SFE2000P)
• 24-Port Gigabit + 4 SFP Managed Switch (SGE2000)
• 24-Port Gigabit +4 SFP PoE Managed Switch (SGE2000P)

Standalone
• 24-Port 10/100 + 4-Port Gigabit Switch with WebView and PoE (SRW224G4P)
• 48-Port 10/100 + 4-Port Gigabit Switch with WebView and PoE (SRW248G4P)

According to the latest 5-year Ethernet Switch forecast report released by leading market research firm, Dell’Oro Group, the small business segment has been much slower to upgrade their networks to Gigabit because of the high price premium associated with these products. Furthermore, given that many small businesses do not have an IT staff, they have shied away from fully managed switches due to the complexities associated with a lot of the managed offerings currently on the market.

The Linksys small business switches address these issues by providing switches that start at around £15.99 a port and dual Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet ports for addressing today’s customer while also enabling the technology for tomorrow’s network. The additional software features Linksys added helps small businesses set up and manage their own networks while the PoE and QoS features provide the ability to add Voice and video service that can help them further save money on infrastructure and service costs.

Linksys fully managed switches are optimised to help maximise the system availability with fully redundant stacking, redundant power option and dual imaging for resilient firmware upgrades. Linksys managed switches provide an intuitive, simple to use management interface enabling administrators and VARs to better utilise the advanced features to help enable a highly secure and optimised network.

Linksys announces new HomePlug AV adapters

image_PLK200.jpg

CeBIT 2007

15 Mar. 2007 -- Linksys today announced its newest PowerLine networking products that are designed for HomePlug AV, the next generation of PowerLine standards from the HomePlug PowerLine Alliance. The Linksys PowerLine AV Ethernet Kit (PLK200) includes two PowerLine AV Ethernet Adapter (PLE200) units, enabling consumers to purchase a complete solution to connect their computers, networked entertainment products, or peripheral devices utilising the existing power lines at data throughput speeds up to 100Mbps* around their home.

The Powerline AV Ethernet kit comes with two Powerline AV Ethernet Adapters and two Ethernet cables. The first adapter can connect with the included Ethernet cable into a broadband wired or wireless router via the LAN port on the router, then the adapter plugs into a power outlet in the wall. Intellon Announces 13 Service Providers Worldwide now Deploying Intellon HomePlug ICs for IPTV

IntellonNWW.jpg

CeBIT 2007

Intellon Continues to Win Business with Global Service Providers Distributing Carrier Grade IPTV Content with No New Wires® Technology

15 Mar. 2007 – Intellon Corporation, the world leader in standards-based powerline communications (PLC) integrated circuits (ICs), today announced that 13 service providers in Europe and Asia are now using products based on Intellon’s HomePlug ICs for in-home IPTV distribution. Operators now deploying Intellon’s ICs for IPTV include 1&1, Chung Hwa Telecom, Club Internet, France Telecom, Free, Hanaro Telecom, neuf cegetel, PCCW, Simmin, Tele2, Telecom Italia France, TPSA and ya.com.

As with any pay television service, IPTV has to be carrier grade in terms of performance. Service providers in Europe and Asia typically began installing IPTV service by running new Ethernet cable to distribute the broadcast TV and video-on-demand content from the residential gateways to the IP set top boxes near customer televisions. Before deploying Intellon’s solution, operators were consistently reporting that 10 to 30 percent of its customers were canceling the newly ordered IPTV service when new Ethernet wiring was required for the installation.

Intellon’s HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo technology essentially turns the electrical wiring in customers’ homes into an instant Ethernet network without the need to install new wires. The service provider industry is quickly adopting Intellon’s solution because it is easy for customers to install themselves without a truck roll, offers carrier-grade in performance and retains customers who would otherwise cancel service due to the inconvenience of new wiring. Operators are reporting that their new service cancellation rates have dropped from 10 to 30 percent to less than 1 percent as a direct result of using Intellon’s HomePlug solution.

SanDisk launches 2.5-inch solid-state drive to replace hard disks in mainstream notebooks

CeBIT 2007

Expanding Its SSD Line, SanDisk Brings Durable, High-Performance Storage To The Entire Range of Portable PCs

12 Mar. 2007 – SanDisk® Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK) today broadened its solid state drive (SSD) product line for the portable computer market with the introduction of a 32-gigabyte (GB) , 2.5-inch Serial ATA (SATA) interface model, compatible with most mainstream notebook designs. Coming just two months after SanDisk introduced a 1.8-inch SSD for ultraportable notebooks, the 2.5-inch SSD is now available to PC manufacturers as a drop-in replacement for hard disk drives.

SanDisk demos the new SSD at PressExpoUSA during CeBIT in Hannover, Germany.

“The SanDisk 2.5-inch SSD brings the extreme durability, outstanding performance and low power consumption of solid-state flash memory to the entire notebook computer market,” said Amos Marom, vice president and general manager of the Computing Systems division at SanDisk. “As SanDisk continues to drive innovation in flash memory, the per-gigabyte price of SSD storage will come down and SSD capacity will go up. PC manufacturers and consumers will find it easier and easier to move away from rotating hard disks to the superior experience of SSDs.”

The vast majority of notebook computers manufactured today use 2.5-inch hard disk drives. The SanDisk 2.5-inch SSD fits in the same internal slot as 2.5-inch hard disks, so notebook manufacturers can switch to the SanDisk SSD without altering their hardware designs.
