597x597black.300.jpg

Skype offers a sneak peek at ShowStoppers of the newest devices and accessories on which the mobile Skype™ experience will be available to the more than 276 million registered Skype users worldwide.

A wide variety of new and innovative wireless devices and accessories will be on display. Skype has taken a number of steps over the course of the last year to increase the number of ways that users can take advantage of its free Skype software. Traditionally, Skype had to be downloaded to users' computers and a microphone and headset were needed to make Skype calls. However, this is no longer the case. There are now nearly 200 Skype Certified™ devices and accessories from more than 50 of the world's leading consumer electronics manufacturers, many of which allow people to use Skype without a headset - and even without needing to be tethered to a computer at all.

Increasingly, this includes being able to make Skype calls while on the go, using mobile devices with either WiFi or cellular connectivity. The recent introduction of the 3 Skypephone together with the innovative mobile operator 3 (owned by Hutchison Whampoa) and the growth of support for Skype on WiFi-enabled mobile devices, such as the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet, Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP-2000) handheld entertainment system, Sony mylo personal communicator, and a wide variety of stand-alone WiFi phones, represent some of the advancements in this area. In addition, Skype for Windows Mobile is one of the most popular Windows Mobile applications, with more than 7 million downloads.

CellTrust SecureSMS messaging introduces end-to-end privacy and two-factor authentication without the complexity and expense of a proprietary solution. What this means to the market? Bluetooth SIG details what's coming

True to its name as a global standard for short-range wireless connections, Bluetooth technology has taken an ultra low power variety for button-cell devices (eg. watches) and a high speed version – using both IEEE.802 and ultra wide band – under its wings, next to the integration of Near Field Communication in the imminent 2.1 +EDR standard of classic Bluetooth technology. See world’s first fully integrated mainstream CMOS power amplifier for mobile handsets

Axiom Microdevices will showcase its award-winning complementary metal oxide semiconductor power amplifier (CMOS PA) technology. Through pioneering integrated circuit innovation, Axiom Microdevices’ patented technology offers handset manufacturers an intelligent alternative to complex and expensive multi-chip module technology based on legacy gallium arsenide power amplifiers (GaAs), enabling customers to benefit from the advantages of CMOS: integration, supply continuity, scalability, power and cost.

Axiom’s CMOS PA integrates full quad-band GSM/GPRS functionality on a single integrated circuit, using mainstream 0.13um silicon CMOS technology. This patented technology enables integration of the PA output match on die along with the power control function, eliminating the need for GaAs or other specialty processes. With the implementation in Silicon of the last component of the phone, Axiom has opened up the path to integration of the entire radio function on die. Axiom Microdevices shipped more than 10 million PAs in 2007, and it continues to ramp its production at multiple customers and in multiple handsets.
