Newton's MoGo Dapter is world's smallest bluetooth adapter

DAPTER.300.jpg

CeBIT 2007

“Set it and forget it” capability specifically designed for 250 million older laptops without Bluetooth capability, allowing use of MoGo Mouse, other wireless devices

15 Mar. 2007 — Newton Peripherals, the developer of the revolutionary MoGo Mouse™, today announced the MoGo Dapter™, a breakthrough in Bluetooth™ adapters that makes it easier than ever for millions of laptop users to use Bluetooth-enabled wireless devices.

The MoGo Dapter is the world's smallest Bluetooth adapter, specifically designed for "road warriors" and other mobile computer users. Newton Peripherals' engineers designed the Dapter, miniaturizing and encapsulating the patent-pending technology so that the adapter simply plugs into any free USB port and virtually sits flush, without protruding like standard adapters. In doing so, the Dapter delivers "set it and forget it" Bluetooth functionality, eliminating the current requirement of unplugging and carrying a bulky adapter when traveling.

The market for such a device is tremendous. Figures from IMS Research and the Bluetooth Special Interest Group indicate that there may be as many as 250 million older laptops still in daily use worldwide, without embedded Bluetooth support. The MoGo Dapter now enables owners of those laptops to use the award-winning MoGo Mouse, recently named as one of IT Week magazine's "Products of the Year," as well as other Bluetooth-enabled devices. More importantly, the MoGo Dapter essentially becomes an integrated part of the laptop, giving users one fewer device to misplace or lose.

Linksys announces new fully-managed, stackable & standalone switches built for small businesses

image_SFE2000%20%28L%29%20copy.jpg

CeBIT 2007

15 Mar. 2007 -- Linksys today announced six new fully managed Layer-2 switches designed specifically for the small business market. These new switches, part of the Linksys Business Series line-up, include:

Stackable
• 24-Port 10/100 + 4-Port Gigabit + 2 SFP Managed Switch (SFE2000)
• 24-Port 10/100 + 4-Port Gigabit + 2 SFP + PoE Managed Switch (SFE2000P)
• 24-Port Gigabit + 4 SFP Managed Switch (SGE2000)
• 24-Port Gigabit +4 SFP PoE Managed Switch (SGE2000P)

Standalone
• 24-Port 10/100 + 4-Port Gigabit Switch with WebView and PoE (SRW224G4P)
• 48-Port 10/100 + 4-Port Gigabit Switch with WebView and PoE (SRW248G4P)

According to the latest 5-year Ethernet Switch forecast report released by leading market research firm, Dell’Oro Group, the small business segment has been much slower to upgrade their networks to Gigabit because of the high price premium associated with these products. Furthermore, given that many small businesses do not have an IT staff, they have shied away from fully managed switches due to the complexities associated with a lot of the managed offerings currently on the market.

The Linksys small business switches address these issues by providing switches that start at around £15.99 a port and dual Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet ports for addressing today’s customer while also enabling the technology for tomorrow’s network. The additional software features Linksys added helps small businesses set up and manage their own networks while the PoE and QoS features provide the ability to add Voice and video service that can help them further save money on infrastructure and service costs.

Linksys fully managed switches are optimised to help maximise the system availability with fully redundant stacking, redundant power option and dual imaging for resilient firmware upgrades. Linksys managed switches provide an intuitive, simple to use management interface enabling administrators and VARs to better utilise the advanced features to help enable a highly secure and optimised network.

Linksys announces new HomePlug AV adapters

image_PLK200.jpg

CeBIT 2007

15 Mar. 2007 -- Linksys today announced its newest PowerLine networking products that are designed for HomePlug AV, the next generation of PowerLine standards from the HomePlug PowerLine Alliance. The Linksys PowerLine AV Ethernet Kit (PLK200) includes two PowerLine AV Ethernet Adapter (PLE200) units, enabling consumers to purchase a complete solution to connect their computers, networked entertainment products, or peripheral devices utilising the existing power lines at data throughput speeds up to 100Mbps* around their home.

The Powerline AV Ethernet kit comes with two Powerline AV Ethernet Adapters and two Ethernet cables. The first adapter can connect with the included Ethernet cable into a broadband wired or wireless router via the LAN port on the router, then the adapter plugs into a power outlet in the wall. Intellon Announces 13 Service Providers Worldwide now Deploying Intellon HomePlug ICs for IPTV

IntellonNWW.jpg

CeBIT 2007

Intellon Continues to Win Business with Global Service Providers Distributing Carrier Grade IPTV Content with No New Wires® Technology

15 Mar. 2007 – Intellon Corporation, the world leader in standards-based powerline communications (PLC) integrated circuits (ICs), today announced that 13 service providers in Europe and Asia are now using products based on Intellon’s HomePlug ICs for in-home IPTV distribution. Operators now deploying Intellon’s ICs for IPTV include 1&1, Chung Hwa Telecom, Club Internet, France Telecom, Free, Hanaro Telecom, neuf cegetel, PCCW, Simmin, Tele2, Telecom Italia France, TPSA and ya.com.

As with any pay television service, IPTV has to be carrier grade in terms of performance. Service providers in Europe and Asia typically began installing IPTV service by running new Ethernet cable to distribute the broadcast TV and video-on-demand content from the residential gateways to the IP set top boxes near customer televisions. Before deploying Intellon’s solution, operators were consistently reporting that 10 to 30 percent of its customers were canceling the newly ordered IPTV service when new Ethernet wiring was required for the installation.

Intellon’s HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo technology essentially turns the electrical wiring in customers’ homes into an instant Ethernet network without the need to install new wires. The service provider industry is quickly adopting Intellon’s solution because it is easy for customers to install themselves without a truck roll, offers carrier-grade in performance and retains customers who would otherwise cancel service due to the inconvenience of new wiring. Operators are reporting that their new service cancellation rates have dropped from 10 to 30 percent to less than 1 percent as a direct result of using Intellon’s HomePlug solution.

SanDisk launches 2.5-inch solid-state drive to replace hard disks in mainstream notebooks

CeBIT 2007

Expanding Its SSD Line, SanDisk Brings Durable, High-Performance Storage To The Entire Range of Portable PCs

12 Mar. 2007 – SanDisk® Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK) today broadened its solid state drive (SSD) product line for the portable computer market with the introduction of a 32-gigabyte (GB) , 2.5-inch Serial ATA (SATA) interface model, compatible with most mainstream notebook designs. Coming just two months after SanDisk introduced a 1.8-inch SSD for ultraportable notebooks, the 2.5-inch SSD is now available to PC manufacturers as a drop-in replacement for hard disk drives.

SanDisk demos the new SSD at PressExpoUSA during CeBIT in Hannover, Germany.

“The SanDisk 2.5-inch SSD brings the extreme durability, outstanding performance and low power consumption of solid-state flash memory to the entire notebook computer market,” said Amos Marom, vice president and general manager of the Computing Systems division at SanDisk. “As SanDisk continues to drive innovation in flash memory, the per-gigabyte price of SSD storage will come down and SSD capacity will go up. PC manufacturers and consumers will find it easier and easier to move away from rotating hard disks to the superior experience of SSDs.”

The vast majority of notebook computers manufactured today use 2.5-inch hard disk drives. The SanDisk 2.5-inch SSD fits in the same internal slot as 2.5-inch hard disks, so notebook manufacturers can switch to the SanDisk SSD without altering their hardware designs.

Wireless AMBER Alerts™ Team-Up with McGruff the Crime Dog®

AmberAlerts.300.jpg

CTIA Wireless 2007

27 March -- The National Crime Prevention Council’s McGruff the Crime Dog®, a champion for crime prevention and safety and one of the most recognizable icons in America, teams up with The Wireless Foundation to raise awareness about the importance of the Wireless AMBER Alerts™ Initiative and other child safety measures at ShowStoppers during CTIA WIRELESS 2007®.

To date, AMBER Alerts have helped to safely recover more than 320 children. The wireless industry, in partnership with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), launched the Wireless AMBER AlertsTM initiative in May 2005 as a way to extend the AMBER Alert program to more than 230 million wireless subscribers.

AMBER stands for “America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response” and was created in 1996 when Dallas-Fort Worth broadcasters teamed with local police to develop an early warning system to find abducted children. The AMBER Alert program was soon adopted across the nation and is a legacy to Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old girl who was kidnapped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and then murdered. All 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands have since established AMBER Alert programs.

Signing up to receive Wireless AMBER AlertsTM is simple and free. All you have to do is log on to www.wirlessamberalerts.org or your wireless carrier’s website and complete an easy registration form. You’ll be notified via text message when an AMBER Alert has been issued in your area, which will allow you to serve as valuable additional eyes and ears for law enforcement in the search effort.

For more information on the Wireless AMBER Alerts™ campaign, check out www.wirelessamberalerts.org or contact Shannon Nix at snix@ctia.org.

Get your cowboy hat at ShowStoppers for the emoze showdown

CTIA_showdown_poster.360.jpg

CTIA Wireless 2007

Imagine a world where every mobile user can receive secure and synchronized emails and data without the expense of owning a BlackBerry™! emoze (www.emoze.com), the world’s first free global email and data synchronization service, is allowing for this dream to become a reality.

Launched in January 2007, the emoze service is compatible with nearly all mobile devices. By simply downloading the emoze service from www.emoze.com, mobile users with a data package from their carrier can transform their devices to send and receive mobile email and personal information management (PIM) data in real-time - anytime, anywhere. And because emoze does not store emails, they are received quickly and securely straight from the user’s PC…or now, being introduced at ShowStoppers, a new central server solution that doesn’t require users to leave their PCs on to receive their emails and calendar events.

On the show floor, emoze will be challenging BlackBerry, for the second time, to a western style “Ultimate Showdown” to prove which company is able to deliver emails the quickest (www.ctiashowdown.com). The initial showdown, which took place at 3GSM World Congress in 2007 in Barcelona, Spain, resulted in a “win” for emoze.

Wilson shows new SIGNALBOOST™ and SOHO amplifiers to boost cellular signals and increase data rates

Wilson%20SignalBoost.360.jpg

CTIA Wireless 2007

27 March -- Wilson Electronics announces several new products today, including a new line of SIGNALBOOST™ dual-band amplifiers and SOHO dual-band amplifiers that work with all Cellular/PCS carriers and have up to 3 watts of output power to increase your cellular signal for either voice or data service.

Wilson amplifiers significantly improve data communication rates needed for the latest 3G technologies, which is a real boost for people using laptops in a portable office environment. The Wilson antenna/amplifier combination increases data rates for data users in shadowed or weak signal areas and helps reduce dropped calls and disconnects by increasing cellular signal quality and range.

Wilson amplifiers’ advanced circuit design and high receiver sensitivity allow them to receive weak signals that would go undetected by most cell phones. Wilson’s amps also have a higher quality transmitter that is much more powerful than what is in a cell phone or laptop data card, which allows better voice and data communication with distant cell sites. Wilson’s boosters work great on cars, trucks, boats, RVs or most any other application and can be adapted for home or office use. Wilson amplifiers work with all generations of CDMA, TDMA, GSM and the latest high-speed data technologies. If you need better cellular signal, either on the go or at a home office, then visit Wilson Electronics.

Vringo launches video sharing community

Woman%20with%20Nokia%20Handset.jpg

CTIA Wireless 2007

Vringo is launching a video sharing community which allows you to share video ringtones (or Vringo's) with your buddies each time you call them.

You choose the clips you'd like your buddy to see and they chose the clips they'd like you to see. These Vringo clips are licensed content from the best of movies, TV, music or are user generated and created from your own mobile phone. Vringo will make sharing viral videos as easy as calling your friends.

Vringo allows for a personalized media sharing content community through video ringtones. Technologically, enabling ring-forward video tones is an exceedingly complex task. Getting an application to essentially control the call process (by dictating what is displayed and how), is almost unheard of, and Vringo has done so very effectively in a wide, and growing, set of handsets.
